State v Mann

The mock trial in our class room between team trippy and team starbucks was very interesting.  The case was between a man who injured a slave that was leased to him and the law of North Carolina itself.  The slaves name was Lydia, and she was shot by Mr.Mann.  Mr. Mann was fined 10 dollars for shooting the slave in the back.  The state argues that the law is allowing this.

The other side argues from more of a morality standpoint, saying that people are worth more than property.  It is hard to argue against morality, because a person should not be seen as a piece of property, but the law at the time says otherwise.  Thats what makes this case so interesting because of the argument between morals and law.  I enjoyed watching the trial in class.  I believe that DJ did a great job with his argument, and it is unfortunate that the law had to win the case.
